Every Christmas when my family gets together, we try to do some type of craft. This year, one of my sisters put me in charge so I decided we should give these DIY glam Christmas ornaments a try. They can be customized with different colors and styles of ribbon, so I figured they would look beautiful on any tree. In addition, each year when we decorate for Christmas, we will have a beautiful memory from 2019 on display for all to see.
Materials
- 4″ Styrofoam balls
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Brush for applying Mod Podge
- Glitter
- Glue gun
- Lace ribbon to wrap around ornaments (any pretty ribbon)
- Satin ribbon for the bows
- Corsage pins (white head)
- Small eye hook pins
- Brooches (click here to shop the ones I used)
- Silver or gold string (for hanging ornament)
What You’ll Do
First, apply the Mod Podge glue with a brush.
Next, add the glitter. I used clear glitter on some of the ornaments and silver glitter on the others.
After that, you will want to cut your lace/ribbon so it fits around the middle of the ornament. I used 4 inch ornaments and found that 12 inches seemed to be a good length for the ribbon.
Pull the two ends of the ribbon around the middle of the ornament until they meet (they should overlap just a little). You will use the pearl-headed pins to secure the ribbon to the ornament (see image below).
Next, you can add more pins however you’d like in order to dress up the ornament and keep the ribbon in place. I just placed pins around the top and bottom of the ribbon above.
To add the bow to the top, I just made a regular bow first.
Then I looped a separate piece of ribbon (about 36″ in length) as shown above.
I weaved the pin through the looped ribbon and then stuck it through the bow on the bottom.
Next, you’ll be able to easily add the bow to the ornament by just pushing the pin down into the top. You could also add a little hot glue first to make sure it stays in place.
In order to hang the ornament, you’ll run a thin string through the eye hook pin. Tie the string in a knot.
Push the small hook down into the top of the ornament behind the bow. I found that using a little hot glue works well for keeping it in place.
The final step is to add a pretty brooch to the front of the bow. Click here to shop my favorite place to get gorgeous brooches and flat backs for crafts.
Be creative! I had a little piece of a mini white fur boa left over from another craft, so I used it (in place of the ribbon) on one of the ornaments. This is another option that looks very pretty.
I am super excited for my family to get together soon so we can create more of these beautiful ornaments for our 2019 Christmas craft! If you decide to try this DIY out, please share it with me! Feel free to leave any questions or comments below.
