First, find inspiration pictures of bedrooms you absolutely love. We all know there are tons of gorgeous bedroom inspo pics on Instagram, Houzz, Pinterest, and other online sources. Based on your bedroom size and layout, decide on which items from your inspiration pictures you want to incorporate into your own bedroom design. Once you have decided, start searching online (or in home decor stores) to see if you can find similar items that don’t cost an arm and a leg. If you prefer a visual of your space, you can either sketch it out on paper or use a mood board to put together your ideas and determine if your design matches your desired/inspiration bedroom. Once you are satisfied, you are ready to begin.
Any time I work on an e-design, I am always looking for the lowest prices on items so that my clients don’t end up overpaying on an item they might have found on another website for less. Yes, many of the exact same home decor items are listed on multiple websites, so it helps to search more than just one site (I will mention which online sites I often use when searching for furniture and home decor later). The fact that we have so many different sources at our fingertips really creates an advantage for us when making any type of purchase these days. Is it time consuming to check multiple sites? Yes, it can be, but if you are looking to save money, it is definitely worth it in the long run.
Let’s say you find a rug you love on Overstock.com and you have decided on this rug for your bedroom. Now you want to see if you can find this rug anywhere else for less. Copy and paste the title of the rug into Google or other search engine to see what results will come up. (See images below for reference.)
If you don’t like to shop online because you prefer to see the items in person, you can search for things you love at stores that carry furniture and home decor, such as places like Pier 1, Pottery Barn, West Elm, ZGallerie, HomeGoods, Marshalls, and Target to name a few. As you probably know by now – if you have been following me for awhile on Instagram – HomeGoods is one of my all time favorite places to find home accent pieces/accessories. This is because their stores are always stocked with gorgeous rugs, artwork, mirrors, pillows, florals, bedding, etc. at discounted prices. Unfortunately, though, every HomeGoods is different; they don’t always carry the same items, so you never know what you will find (but you’re bound to find something beautiful there anyway).
I mentioned earlier that I would give you a list of some of my favorite websites to use when searching for furniture and decor. These are the websites I most commonly use when creating e-designs for my clients:
Overstock
Joss and Main
Wayfair
Pier1
Target
Lamps Plus
ZGallerie
Houzz
Pottery Barn
West Elm
Bed Bath and Beyond
High Fashion Home
Macy’s
Hopefully, whichever option you prefer to use (online or in-store), you find my advice helpful and are able to get your dream bedroom for less!
