Our Peach Tree
If you follow me on Instagram, I am sure you have seen my peach tree. In the winter months, it is bare and we trim it down quite a bit. It normally starts blossoming between the months of March and April. By the end of June, we can count on a tree full of peaches, just waiting to be enjoyed!
FUN FACT: When we bought this tree from a local nursery about 6 years ago, it was not labeled and we had no idea it was a fruit tree. It was about 3 feet tall and had pretty pink blossoms all over it. It was love at first sight, and I knew I had to bring it home with us. The summer after we planted it, we learned it was a peach tree when we saw 3 little peaches growing on it. What a nice surprise! Since then, we have been blessed with more and more peaches each summer.
Picking Peaches
We are usually able to pick peaches several times throughout the summer. This is the second time I am picking them this year. I normally wait until I start seeing a few on the ground. That is my sign that they are ready.
Let’s Make Some Peach Jam
Click here for the recipe I am using from freshpreserving.com.
Ingredients needed:
- 2 2/3 cups of crushed peaches
- 3 Tbsp pectin
- 2 Tbsp bottled lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp butter or margarine
- 3 1/3 cups of granulated sugar
- 4 or 8 oz jars for storing (I used six 4 oz jars)
After the peaches have been picked, I usually wash them with water and vinegar. If they are not quite ripe enough to cook, I place them in a brown paper bag for a day or so to help them ripen more quickly. Once they soften, I know they are ready to go.
To make the jam, I start out by slicing, peeling, and mashing the peaches with a potato masher in a large bowl (linked below).
Jam & Jelly Maker
I borrowed my parents jam and jelly maker to make my peach jam. I linked the jelly maker below if you are interested. There are several recipes you can find online that do not require one, but it does come in handy if you plan on making jelly/jam often.
The recipe calls for you to start out by putting all of the ingredients, except the sugar, into the jelly maker. Next, you push the jam or jelly button depending on what you plan on making, and then press “enter”. The machine starts heating up and stirring everything together for a set amount of time. It beeps after a few minutes to inform you when it’s time for adding the sugar. After you add the sugar, you put on the lid, sit back, and wait for it to do its thing. π I used the “jam” option and it took just 21 minutes to cook.

Three Ways to Enjoy
This peach jam is so delicious! My kids and I couldn’t stop eating it once it was done (which just reminded me to exercise a little extra tonight). I personally taste-tested and approved the following three ways for you to enjoy it. π
#1 – On Toast
This delicious homemade peach jam tastes great on toasted bread or on a bagel. I used french bread here, but I believe it would be tasty on any type of bread.
#2 – In Your Favorite Tea
Peach tea is my favorite! I added a little of the jam to the bottom of the glass and then poured in some unsweetened tea. I loved it, and it was definitely a big hit with my kids! They used a boba straw to make sure they got the small, sweet chunks of peaches at the bottom.
#3 – On Top of Your Favorite Ice Cream
It was such a hot day that this ice cream melted before I could even take a pic! Doesn’t it look delicious, though? I put the jam on top of French Vanilla Ice Cream, but it would be great on almost any type of ice cream. Perfect treat for a hot summer day!
Great Little Gifts
I filled several little 4 oz jars to give away to a few of our neighbors and family members just for fun. Hoping they enjoy it as much as we do!
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions. I would also love to hear your thoughts if you try out this delicious homemade peach jam recipe.
